Gross blood in urine with lupus indicates that the kidneys may have been affected. About 60% of people with systemic lupus erythematosus may develop kidney disease (Lupus Nephritis). Glomeruli are tiny individual filtering units of the kidneys. When these filters are damaged, red blood cells will get leaked into urine, leading to hematuria or blood in urine. Other possible causes also include bladder infection, medication-induced kidney damage or even kidney cancer.

Lupus nephritis results from autoimmune disorder. It means that the patients’ immune system fails the normal function and attacks kidney tissues and cells mistakenly, leading to damage to filtering units in kidneys

In gross hematuria, the urine is pink, red, or dark brown. Once detecting this symptom, go to see a doctor and do test to confirm the exact cause. Then corresponding treatment can be suggested.

In case blood in urine is caused due to Kidney Disease, prompt treatment is necessary to prevent Kidney Failure, the most serious manifestation of lupus.

Therefore, to treat lupus nephritis effectively and control gross hematuria completely, the therapy should be able to suppress the inflammation in kidneys and stop the attack to kidneys as well as restore impaired filtering units in kidneys.

To date, one of the best therapies for lupus kidney disease is Immunotherapy. It not only deals with the symptoms like gross blood in urine, but also restore the renal function and rebuild the overall immune system. The whole treatment process includes six steps, that is, comprehensive diagnosis, cleaning the immune complexes in blood, removing the immune complexes in the kidneys, block the inflammation, repairing the damaged kidney tissues and rebuilding the damaged immune system.

Immunotherapy is an alternative therapy for lupus nephritis. It can treat the disease from its underlying cause and control gross hematuria completely.
